Nehemiah 3 "Rebuilding and Community"

Nehemiah: A Season to Rebuild
#3 "Rebuilding and Community"
Nehemiah 3:1-32

We continue the story of Nehemiah picking it up in Chapter 3 as we see the people of God begin building the wall around the city of Jerusalem. Chapter 3 is usually skipped over since it reads like a phone book of ancient names but there is much to learn in this important chapter. Open your Bibles to Nehemiah Chapter 3 to learn what it means to rebuild by example and priority and rebuild with community, humility, family, and urgency.

Rebuilding by Example (3:1) Notice the High Priest and other priests go first, they lead by example, they're willing to roll their sleeves up and get their hands dirty. As you think about your life and influence over others, what impact does your example have on others? Are there areas where your example needs to change? What areas are you not following Jesus' example in your life?

Rebuilding by Priority (3:1) The first area that is rebuilt is the sheep gate to prioritize the restorations of the sacrifices in temple worship. Why should worship be prioritized in our lives? What ways are your priorities consistent or inconsistent with God’s priorities?

Rebuilding with Community (3:2-4) Notice the repeated pattern throughout chapter 3 of after him, next to him, etc. The wall was divided into 40 different sections with everyone building together solider to solider. How are you working with other believers to help build the Kingdom?

Rebuilding with Humility (3:5) There were several nobles that refused to stoop to serve the Lord. They made the Bible for their unwillingness to serve God. Are there any areas in your life where you are refusing to stoop to serve the Lord? What areas of pride exist in your hearts and how do they manifest in your life?

Rebuilding with Family (3:12) There are several families that serve together in rebuilding the wall. Why is it important for families to serve together in ministry? How is your family ministering together? How can we encourage and support the families in our church?

Rebuilding with Urgency (3:8) There are several workers such as goldsmiths and perfumers that weren't stonemasons or carpenters but were willing to help where the need was. How are you responding to the needs in front of you?
-Elder/Deacon (We need new leaders who are willing to serve in this next season)

-Community Group involvement (We need to get more of our folks into Community Groups to be loved, served, and connected)
-Serving on the Worship Team (musicians wanted - Please talk with Ken Sabalza) or the Production Team (tech-wise folks needed - Please talk with Andrew Bierbaum)
-Children's Ministry (Steve Pratt will be reforming and relaunching RVC's Children's Ministry in this next season and needs folks willing to help teach and serve kids)
