CG Coaching Video 5/28 - Summit View Church

Week 6: "Conversion 101: When God’s Mission Becomes Yours"
(Acts 9)

GROWING DEEPER
Engage
What are some unexpected events that completely changed the trajectory of your life?
How would your life be different if everything went according to your life plan instead of God’s plan?
What do you think is the current cultural view of change? Who can change and how can’t? Is it a good or bad thing?

Explore
In 9:1-2, Saul is trying to completely exterminate the church. Why does Saul hate Christianity so much?  Who are the modern Saul’s and what methods do they use to destroy Christianity?
How is Saul persecuting Jesus according to Acts 9:3-9? How does the risen and reigning King Jesus see his relationship with his people? In Acts 9:10-19, what roles does Ananias play in Saul’s conversion? How has Ananias’ simply but still very fearful obedience impacted the entire world? What would be different if Ananias didn’t obey the Lord?
In Acts 9:18 something like scales falls from Saul’s eyes. How does sin blind us? How is salvation like seeing for the first time? What immediate evidences did Saul give to affirm a genuine conversion? How does faith show up in actions?

Apply
If you are a Christian, what are some of the similarities or differences between your conversion story and Saul’s conversion? How has your conversion changed you? Why is conversion so important to the Christian life?
If someone isn’t sinlessly perfected, how do we know if they really have been born again? What evidences should we look for to determine true conversion? What ways might the Christian community give false assurance to people who aren’t converted? What would be some of the pressures you might face to just assure someone of their salvation when every outward markers points to their unregenerate carnality?
What forms of persecution of you encountered because of your Christian faith and how did you respond?
Since Jesus says to Saul that persecuting the church is the same as persecuting him, how should this change the way we view, speak of and interact with our local church? What needs to change in your thoughts, words and actions for you to both have and communicate a high view of the church?
