CG Coaching Video "Letters" Week #3

"The Gospel and Church Leadership" (1 Timothy 2:11-3:7)
Sunday, June 19th at Both Campuses
Heritage Park (Michael Hearn) Felida (Rob Anderson)
Growing Deeper

Read I Timothy 2:11-3:10

When you look outside and see creation, one thing that stands out is how everything works together, from how the earth revolves around the sun to how things grow and reproduce. When you study God in the Scriptures one thing that becomes apparent is how God is a God of order. When it comes to the church, why do you think God has structured the church the way He has? Why is order and structure so important in the body of Christ?

What is the role of Elders? See I Timothy 3:1-7, Acts 20:28 and 1 Peter 5:1-5.
The qualifications for an Elder fall into two categories—character and ability. How do the qualities mentioned in these verses divide into these two categories? (1 Timothy 3:1-7)

Why is an Elder’s family an important indicator of leadership potential or problems? How is leading a church similar to leading a family? (1 Timothy 3:4-5)

Why is spiritual maturity so important for church leadership? (1 Timothy 3:6, 10)
The qualifications for Elders as found in 1 Timothy 3 are essentially describing a mature Christian.
Which qualification presents you with the greatest challenge? How might your small group encourage you to grow in this area?

“An overseer must be above reproach.” Do you feel you are worthy of respect? Do you know your own weaknesses well enough to avoid situations that would compromise your integrity?

“Husband of one wife.” If you are married, are you faithful in mind and deed to your spouse? If single, how do you seek to control your sexual thoughts and desires?

“Not addicted to wine.” Are you prone to use alcohol or prescription drugs in excess?

“Not pugnacious, but gentle, not contentious.” Is your life characterized by irritability, bad-tempered speech or actions? How do you deal with others when they fail or let you down?

“Manages his own household well,” “having children who believe, not accused of dissipation or rebellion.” What aspects of household management hold the greatest potential to mar your testimony as a Christian leader?

“Must have a good reputation.” How are you perceived by those outside the church? Do they see Jesus in you?

Group Prayer Time
Last week we asked people to text in prayer requests during our gathering. Over 50 people texted various requests. So many people are in need of wisdom, provision, and direction in their lives and families. Please take some time to pray for the body of Christ at Summit View and for God to continue to direct and protect the Elders as they lead our church.
