"Amazing Grace"
Words by John Newton
Music by New Britain
On the evening of August 23rd, I was praying and asking the Lord whether or not I should attend the upcoming Prayer March that would be held in Washington, DC on September 26th, led by Franklin Graham. During that time, the Lord gave me a vision that I would be singing a song inside the Lincoln Memorial. I wondered whether or not it was something that could be done, but I trusted in God that He would provide a way for me to do so. The following day, I felt at peace about going to DC, so I registered for the event and made the necessary preparations.
Fast forwarding to September 26th, I participated in the Prayer March and after the event, I was deeply moved by the prayers of God's people, for His Church, for our nation and its people, our leaders, and the upcoming elections. The experience inspired me to go ahead and move forward with the vision that God gave me, to sing at the Lincoln Memorial. So the following Sunday morning, I made my way to the Memorial very early while no one was around and when everyone was still asleep. As I approached the statue of Abraham Lincoln, I was praying to the Lord to give me strength to sing from my heart and that He would allow this opportunity to happen, not out of disrespect of the site but as a form of reverence to the Lord that both President Lincoln and I serve and hold our allegiance to. And with that, God answered my prayers and He allowed me to sing.
What a timely song for our nation to hear! With all the division, strife, fear, anxiety, and uncertainty, but to be reminded and to know that God is in control and He is Emmanuel and is with us.
May John Newton's words ring true today as it did hundreds of years ago, that we were once lost but now we are found and that our eyes would be opened to the truth and reality of who God is. May we return back to Him by forsaking and repenting of our sins and placing our faith and hope in Him. He will then renew us into a new creation, bring us back to a right relationship with Him, and heal this land.
May God bless you and may God bless the United States of America!
