The Refocused Life: Managing Technology

The Refocused Life: Managing Technology Series: Habits 2026 Date: January 25, 2026 Scripture: Genesis 1:28, Hebrews 12:1, Hebrews 4:14-16 ABOUT THIS MESSAGE Technology is a useful servant but a dangerous master. In this message, we explore how to discipline our digital habits to fulfill our purpose rather than be distracted from it. We discuss the theology of technology, the weight of distraction, and how to model a life of presence just as Jesus did. SERMON OUTLINE 1. The Theology of Technology (Genesis 1:28): Technology is not inherently evil; it is an outworking of the Cultural Mandate to "subdue the earth". 2. The Weight of Distraction (Hebrews 12:1): The digital life creates unnecessary weight that hinders our spiritual race. 3. Distraction from Purpose (Proverbs 12:11): We often use digital distractions to avoid work, people, and God. 4. The Incarnational Response (Hebrews 4:14-16): Jesus modeled a life of presence. We must prioritize being "right here, right now". REFLECTION QUESTIONS In what ways does your current use of technology distract you from your real work, relationships, or walk with God? Do you primarily use digital technology to create and build, or to consume and escape? Are you guilty of "phubbing" (snubbing people with your phone) family or friends? Does your phone go to bed before you do, or is it the last thing you see at night? If you have instant access to all knowledge, do you also seek the wisdom that comes only from God? PRACTICAL CHALLENGES FOR 2026 The Digital Detox: Disconnect for one hour a day, one day a week, and one week a year. Create, Don't Consume: Set up your environment to reward creativity rather than passive consumption. Bedtime Boundaries: Phones go to bed before we do and wake up after we do. The "WePad" Principle: Use technology together for a purpose instead of isolated scrolling. ANNOUNCEMENTS & UPCOMING EVENTS Feed My Starving Children: Join us on Wednesday, January 28, at 7:15 PM. Why Does 2 + 2 = 4? What Math Teaches Us About Deep Reality

Is math something humans invent—or something we discover? And why does it describe the universe so uncannily well? In this episode of Uncommon Knowledge, Peter Robinson sits down with mathematicians David Berlinski, Sergiu Klainerman, and Stephen Meyer to explore one of the deepest mysteries in science and philosophy: the reality of mathematics. From the simple certainty that 2 + 2 = 4 to the mind-bending mathematics behind black holes and quantum physics, the conversation asks why abstract numbers—created in the human mind—map so perfectly onto the physical world. Is mathematics purely logical, or does it point to a deeper structure of reality that isn’t material at all? Along the way, the panel explores beauty in science, the “unreasonable effectiveness” of math, and whether the concept of materialism can really explain the world we live in. This wide-ranging discussion blends mathematics, physics, philosophy, and metaphysics into a fascinating conversation about truth, beauty, and the nature of reality itself. The Pastor in the Closet: Thomas Murphy on the Minister's Secret Duties

Season 2. Episode 9. The Pastor in the Closet: Thomas Murphy on the Minister's Secret Duties Behind every faithful sermon is a hidden place. In this episode, we explore Thomas Murphy's insistence that a pastor's most essential work happens in the prayer closet, where private devotion shapes public ministry. Drawing on Murphy — and echoing Baxter, Miller, and Warfield — we're reminded that the strength and character of the pulpit are formed in secret communion with God.

When Your Heart Grows Cold: How to Restore Your Love for Christ | Jonny ...

Have you been serving, staying doctrinally sound, and doing all the “right” Christian things—but feel your love for Jesus growing cold? In Revelation 2, Jesus praises the church in Ephesus for their diligence, discernment, and perseverance, but then gives a sobering rebuke: “You have left your first love.” This episode is sponsored by The Master's University. To learn more about how you can invest in a college education devoted to Christ & Scripture, visit: https://www.masters.edu This episode is also brought to you by our ministry partner Accountable2You. To join thousands living in Freedom with nothing to hide visit https://accountable2you.com/dialin. *Use our unique code: DIALIN to get 25% off your first year of an Accountable2You Personal or Family Plan* In this episode, we unpack what it means to leave your first love (not in sequence, but in prominence) and why a cold, apathetic heart is spiritually dangerous—even if your life looks strong on the surface. Using the Challenger space shuttle tragedy as an illustration of a “missing critical piece,” we look at Christ’s clear prescription for spiritual apathy: ✅ Remember where you’ve fallen (preach the gospel to yourself) ✅ Repent (this is a heart issue, not just burnout) ✅ Return to “the deeds you did at first” We also discuss what those “first deeds” can look like: renewed hunger for God’s Word, fervent prayer, love for God’s people, evangelistic zeal, and honest confession—not just going through the motions. If you’ve been asking: • “Why don’t I love Jesus like I used to?” • “How do I overcome spiritual dryness?” • “What does Revelation 2 teach the church today?”…this conversation is for you.
